welcoming safety

in Presence is our unconditional safety.

it is a safety
that is not dependent
on any activity,
on any cessation,
on any movement or stillness.

it is a safety
that doesn’t come and go,
unlike all the temporal experiences
dreamed within the infinite subject.

this safety
is the warm embrace
of a loving reality
as she welcomes all things,
without judgment,
without pre-tense and
without reserve.

whenever we feel alone in a cold universe,
sad and unhappy or cynical and afraid,
we are playing a game of hide and seek with God.
it’s a rigged game: she already knows all our best hiding spots!

since one of her great joys is to rediscover herself again,
she plays along like a generous mother,
until, at some point, we grow tired of this game,
and dissolve into the arms of reality.

we don’t have to play that one anymore.

in fact, the whole game –
the hiding, the seeking, the finding, the dissolving,
is just a moment’s glint in the eye of the real…
our nature remains, always unperturbed.

if we could only stop for a moment
and recognize that this conscious presence
embraces us, holds us, creates us and sustains us,
that there has never been any separation in the history of Reality –
then our anxieties and frustrations would dissolve.

we would welcome back the experience of natural safety
that has been waiting for us all along.

true strength is not an egocentric force of personal will:
it is the primordial confidence that we are what we are,
and it could never be otherwise.

this is the true meaning of faith,
found in the safety of an ever-welcoming reality.
