Being’s Rest

early in the morning, just before waking
the body wrapped in a cocoon of sleep;
there is Pure Presence without differences.

just as

late, upon falling asleep,
the body relaxing joyfully into deep rest,
Consciousness remembers its infinity.

in the waking state
where objects arise, shifting multiform,
Awareness plays the game of a seeming-duality,
where in Reality, its rest remains absolute.

and the dreamed world at night
whose objects are less dense:
a translucent half-way point
towards Silence.

birth and death,
moments in time,
space-bound events in a life;
Awareness is free of all
the transformations
that we may believe
depict its bounds.

at any moment, there is only the meditation of consciousness –
which includes all its arisings –
but is never limited to them.

Being is always at Rest.

layer by layer

the infinite light of consciousness
touches, through the filter of attention, an object;
illuminating it with its self-knowing presence…

the body, object par-excellence,
is one such vehicle lit by Consciousness
and which dissolves, layer by layer,
into a felt-understanding beyond any thinking process –
that what I Am is truly not-separate.

it is through loving attention and interest
that the thawing of these layers of lightness begin to subsume
the density and heaviness and neurotic tension
that sometimes seems to be ‘just the way it must be’;
there is a world beyond this assumption
waiting to be discovered –

all that’s required is openness, courage, love.

concepts don’t hold much weight there,
it is a path of the felt-sense,
it is a path of offering all sensation
to be returned to the depths
of the ocean of our eternal Being.

The Radiance of Silence

To True Silence:
not the silence of the mind,
nor the silence of sound,
but the silence that lives in the Heart of our Being…

to this Silence, we are bound.

ever-present as the background,
the wellspring of infinity,
waiting – always, just on the other side of Form –

this is the True Silence to which all reverence is due.

it is the silent response in answer to the question ‘What Am I?’

the exhalation of breath
subsumes into a stillness..
there is a pause, before the birth of the Inhale,
where this Silence can be felt.

it has been called – turiya – the non-objective state –
that which resides over waking, sleeping, dreaming…

in this space before the inhalation,
all of our arrogances and presumptions,
fears, desires, appropriations, objections,
all are offered as silent sacrifice to the Absolute,
and she churns them, in her fireplace of Creation
towards the explosion of life that comes with each in-breath.

For True Silence is not nothing;
It is Being,
It is what Is,
and in Its inestimable creativity,
it is that which births the cosmos and Life,
as this radiant display of energies playing the multitudes of a cosmic embrace,
energies mirrored in the subtleties of the body itself.

True Silence is not death,
It is the Silence at the heart of Life, eternally…
It is the Light of Awareness, this
The Open Radiance of Silence.
